Tornado Disaster
Church destroyed during services - but all safe inside!

Operation Relief Delivers Help and Hope

By Garry Vickers
When natural disasters such as tornados occur, CAP responds.

Christian Appalachian Project -

I need your help!  Tornados have once again caused death and destruction in some of the most poverty stricken areas of America.  A wave of severe weather stretched through much of the eastern United States fueled by an unusual flow of warm air coming up from the Gulf of Mexico.  More than 30 people are reported dead with many more still missing.  Over one hundred and sixty people were injured in the early-evening storms with property destruction wide spread. Hardest hit areas included Appalachian counties already suffering from recent natural disasters and severe conditions of poverty.

The hardest hit area was a small community in Tennessee called Mossy Grove.  The storm hit around 8:30 pm and witnesses say it sounded like a jet.  Rescuers immediately began searching for trapped victims; power lines were down Tornado Disastereverywhere.  People were crying for help.

Carl Jones, Morgan Co Commissioner, said, “The Governor has declared Morgan Co. a state disaster area.”  127 homes were completely destroyed in this area -, as well as churches and businesses!

“It looks like a war zone, nothing but rubble.  There are some homes standing, but they have no roofs and no windows, and the insides have been sucked out.  As soon as we heard about the destruction we began loading emergency supplies to aid these victims,” reported Johnny Thompson, CAP’s Operation Sharing director. “We’re rolling.  We have delivered the first load of drinking water and will be returning with more emergency supplies.  We’ve got a lot to do, and we’re ready to do it.”

Please, hear this cry for help coming from the Appalachian region. Many families affected by this devastation desperately need emergency assistance. Many residents of these counties struggle daily with the devastating impacts of poverty.  It will take years to recover from their losses, and emergency help is needed immediately.

Your financial help is needed now!  As a long-time friend of CAP, you know that when natural disasters such as tornados occur, CAP responds.  Money raised will be used to put into immediate action Operation Relief, providing much needed water, food, household goods, small appliances, cleaning supplies, bedding, blankets and air mattresses to people in the areas affected.

Your gifts speak loud in the silence of despair that someone cares about him or her. Please, help us help those in need.  Give as generously as you can.  Click on the truck below and make an emergency donation to help keep relief supplies going to these victims.  Thank you and God bless.
